Update Smart Poke V2 Allows You To Bypass Pokemon GO Restrictions New Release

Niantic released an update to the Pokemon GO app on Tuesday that updated the game to version 0.31, bringing with it some UI changes and performance tweaks. Unfortunately for those using third-party apps to help locate Pokemon, the update also blocked unofficial services from accessing the locations of Pokemon, rendering third-party apps useless. Now, just two short days later, Smart Poke V2 has figured out a way around Niantic’s restrictions and is now able to make Pokemon locations available once again.

The app is still officially in beta, so you may experience some bugs while using it. When setting up the app, it may not be immediately clear how to sign in; it prompts you not to sign in with a Google account, but rather create a new “PTC” account. This is a Pokemon Trainer Club account, and you may not have one if you initially signed in to the game using Google. To create one, sign out of Pokemon GO, and when signing back in you will see an option to create a Pokemon Trainer Club account. Once you’ve created the account, use that to sign into Smart Poke V2. The app displays nearby Pokemon using Google Maps, and tapping a Pokemon on the map will present you with relevant information, including distance, time remaining to catch it, and rarity. In addition to highlighting nearby Pokemon on a map, the app also offers notifications when rare Pokemon are close by, and a persistent notification that will show you which Pokemon are near you at a glance. Google has been removing similar apps, such as PokeNotify, from the Google Play Store, so this one may not last. However, removing it from the Play Store won’t stop players from side-loading the app if a download for the APK file is made available.

Of course, it is important to note when using this type of service that third-party apps such as this one are not officially condoned by the game’s terms of use. It is possible that use of these tools could result in penalties, including denial of access to the game, so if you do use this app, do so at your own risk.
